Hi Ben, I learned a lot from your tutorial.
I'm trying now to use OpenAL to play back long soundfiles - never more than 2 at a time. As I need pitch control I can't use the AVAudioPlayer and I can't either load the entire files into memory.
I searched the web without success for an example for audio streaming in OpenAL. You mentioned that you use streaming for longer files. Came you accress some good tutorials for that or could you provide an example? Thanks a lot, Hans

Hi Ben,
Your tutorial was really helpful in understanding openal, thanks for that.
I'm trying to play sythesize sounds by iPhone but couldn't figure out how. For example I wanna play a simple tone (sinusoid), so I can make an array of numbers (as samples of the sinusoid). Do you know how can I play it by iPhone.
All the tutorials talk about playing sounds, that are in sound files like .caf, .aif etc.... but none talks abt playing syhthesized sounds like that.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Hey Bluenight,

Both the volume and the pitch only affect the sound of the played buffers, not the actual buffer data.

I am not sure if OpenAL supports data transcoding like you are talking about, but pitch shifting is not a terribly complicated algorithm, so you could probably find some methods to pitch shift your data buffers with a quick google search.

Cheers!
